Challengers and neo-banks meet a brick wall when they try to take on the established ‘big banks’ in Australia. Successful fintechs are the ones finding new niche markets and peripheral services that are either not offered by big banks, or haven’t been conceived of yet – i.e., they are forging their own market segment. With that in mind, the outcome will inevitably be that the ‘big guys’ will copy offerings themselves, or acquire the IP. What can fintechs do better to innovate, or be integrated?
